10 Fun Fall Activities

1. CARVE PUMPKINS

Derek Gillette blog

Picking out a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch is such a fun activity and the best part is when you get to carve your pumpkin at home! If there isn't an open patch near you have your little ones find their favourite pumpkin at a farmers' market or grocery store. When you return home be creative with your pumpkins and then display them for all the neighbours to see!

2. DECORATE FOR FALL

Fun activities blog Derek Gillette

One of the best parts of the season is actually decorating your own home for fall! Hang up an autumn wreath on your front door, add faux pumpkins to your mantel, create a leaf bouquet for your kitchen table. This is also your excuse to stock up on delicious smelling pumpkin candles, hand soaps and add cozy throw blankets everywhere!

3. DRINK PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES

4. BAKE TOGETHER

Cooking dinner, baking goodies, it's all more fun when you do it together! Get older kids involved in planning the menu and help you out in the kitchen. Be sure to use plenty of in-season produce, like squash, apples, cranberries, garlic, broccoli, pears, radishes, and sweet potatoes. Younger kids can help with creating and eating the dessert!

5. CAMP IN YOUR BACKYARD

Make stargazing on a chilly fall night a new family favourite activity. Set up a tent in your backyard, or just bring sleeping bags, a heavy quilt, and pillows outside and admire the twinkling stars up above. You can tell ghost stories and see if you can last the whole night sleeping inside the tent.

6. WATCH A CLASSIC FALL MOVIE

On your walk or drive admiring the colourful leaves also collect some while you go. Look for freshly fallen leaves that have no holes or damage. Press and dry them and then attach them to a wreath shape you can cut from an old cardboard box. Voila a gorgeous DIY wreath for fall.
