A Toast To Springtime

Haywire – 2015 The Bub

Toast to the beginning of spring with this bold, fresh, brut-dry sparkling wine deliciously crafted from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. This lovely bubbly, with an essence of light earthiness and fresh green apples, offers up a texture of soft effervescence and is the perfect libation to raise a glass with.

Church and State – 2015 Trebella

This fascinating blend of Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier gives this smooth, medium wine a startling gold colour and a complex range of aromas including lemon crème, nectarine, vanilla as well as unexpected notes of herbal tea and acacia flowers. This wine is an excellent choice to accompany rich seafood dishes and most west coast cuisine and is ideal for the maverick who loves experimenting with unique food pairings.

Quails’ Gate – 2015 The Bench Pinot Gris

Part of their Collector Series selection, which means it’s available in limited quantities and only at their estate, this dry, medium bodied, white wine is fruit intensive and presents additional notes of white flowers, minerals and spice. The subtle use of French oak deepens the structure of this elegant wine which pairs sublimely with seasoned grilled chicken, fresh seafood such as scallops, halibut or linguini with clams or can simply be appreciated unaccompanied while enjoying spectacular ocean views from a comfortable Adirondack chair.

Lake Breeze – 2014 Syrah

This standout, well-balanced Syrah-with a splash of Viognier-is enjoyable to drink now and will only improve with age.  Nicely rounded and robust, this wine presents intense black peppercorn, aromas of violets, dark fruits and the spicy, toasty notes of chocolate and coffee. Indulge your inner carnivore and fire up that grill or smoker because this bold wine will hold up perfectly to the intense flavors of slow barbequed pork, lamb, sausage, and grilled meats of all kinds.

Poplar Grove – 2012 Legacy

This age-worthy, garnet red prince of a wine is a major standout in the Okanagan wine circuit. When others decide not to pour their giants during festival season, Poplar Grove is usually more than generous with this expressive wine. Predominantly cabernet franc, this mouth staining blend has plenty of oak and a flood of fruit, with enticing aromas of cocoa and leather. It spends 21 months in French oak barrels and then 24 months in cellar before it’s released. The Legacy is THE perfect match to that rare grilled T-bone steak at this year’s inaugural spring BBQ.
