Spring Maintenance Checklist for Your Home

1.    Tree Trimming
The winter can be very hard on your trees so before the leaves start to sprout look closely for any dead branches or areas that need to be trimmed. It is so much easier to spot these areas before the trees have fully bloomed. Very important to also check if any dead branches are hanging over your house which will cause debris and leaves in the gutters which could lead to water backup.

2.    Roof Checkup
With all the rain we get over our wintery Vancouver Island months it is a great idea to head up on the roof to have a good look over the entire surface. Check for any cracks that may need sealing or any moss or mold that could be accumulating. Acting on any problems sooner rather than later will save a lot of time and money.

3.    Gutter Clean Out
Proper gutter cleaning and maintenance will prevent serious home damage such as basement flooding and foundation damage. It is very important to make sure that your downspouts drain away from the foundation and gutters are free from debris.

4.    Window Cleaning
Sparkling clean windows make an enormous difference to the appearance of your home. It doesn’t take much time and it can really make a difference inside and on the outside of your home.

5.    Crack Repair
Cracks can appear on your home’s exterior walls from just about anything and they can be easily overlooked. Even the smallest of cracks will need to be addressed by applying some sealants. This is especially important during hot weather in the summer to keep the cool air indoors.

6.    Appliance Assessment
Yard appliances shouldn’t be overlooked and give them a quick evaluation to make sure they are in good condition before putting them to the test. Clean air conditioning coils and switch out filters that may look very dirty. Give your lawn mover an inspection and replace any spark plugs or sharpen blades if needed. Assess outdoor faucets to ensure the water discharges smoothly before attaching a hose to it. Maintenance tips like these will increase the life of your appliances.

After you have finished your Spring Maintenance Checklist it is time to enjoy the natural outdoor beauty that we are so fortunate to have on Vancouver Island.
