Vancouver Island Size and Formation:

First of all, for those who don't know. This Island isn't super tiny; to put the Island's size into perspective, Vancouver Island is ~31,285 km². To compare its size as a reference Vancouver Island is roughly the same size as Belgium (30,688 km²) or Taiwan (36,193 km²) and much bigger than Israel (20,770 km²). With about 50 towns and cities on the Island. To drive from one end to the other would take approximately seven or eight hours without stopping! The Island was born from volcanic rock, and about 150 million years ago, volcanic activity pushed sedimentary rock upward from the Sea Floor to form the Island Landscape.

There are many hikes, trail running, mountain biking, rock climbing, caving, freshwater swimming, ocean swimming, surfing, river rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and sailing. In the winters, on our mountains, there's snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing and tubing; because British Columbia has the mildest weather in Canada, it makes for sports and many outdoor activities possible to enjoy year-round.
