The romantic isolation of the Pacific Northwest beaches make Long Beach an incredible destination year-round. Fall and winter though, are some of the most magical times when you can storm watch, surf at the many beaches and hike the endless trail options. There is no denying the raw force of Mother Nature pounding wave after wave against the rugged coastline is a breathtaking sight to take in! At the end of the day plan a bonfire on the beach which is so rewarding.
With every day being a "Beach Day" when you're there, you can't go wrong in the beach you choose!
Some of our particular favourites are:
CHESTERMAN BEACH – This beach is perfect for exploring tidepools at low tide to find sea stars and anemones. With its gentle waves its a preferred spot to learn surfing and on windy days have fun flying a kite!
COX BAY BEACH – Seasoned surfers hang out at this beach so bring your camera for some amazing feats in the water. Enjoy exploring the driftwood shelters and have fun building your own!
MACKENZIE BEACH – A sheltered beach this location has the gentlest waves and is a favourite for families with small children. The sand here is perfect for making sand castles.
LONG BEACH – Aptly named this beach stretches all the way south to the rocky headlands that mark the division between Long Beach and Wickaninnish Beach and stretches to the north toward Schooner Cove beach. Winter storm watching here is a dramatic event!
WICKANINNISH BEACH – With its westerly exposure this beach is also another popular surfing destination. Powerful waves and a vast stretch of sand with weather-bleached driftwood create a stunning, living postcard. Enjoy a packed lunch here among the driftwood.
