1. FESTIVAL OF FEAR AT GALEY FARMS

Festival Of Fear – signature event has four main venues, featuring a Haunted House for kids, and the much, much scarier 6000 square foot Carnevil Haunted House for adults – runs nightly 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm, October 17th to 20th and 24th through to Halloween night.

2. HALLOWEEN TRICK-OR-TREATING AT THE MARKET

Bring your little Ghouls and Goblins down to the Market on Thursday October 31st from 10am – 6pm for Trick or Treating in the Market! All of the permanent Market vendors will have treats available for your Trick-or-Treaters.

3. ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW – ON THE BIG SCREEN!

IT’S BACK! The kookiest, spookiest cult classic returns to The Vic! The Rocky Horror Picture Show! A pair of American sweethearts (Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick) stumble upon an eerie mansion occupied by a motley crew and their eccentric master, Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry).

4. FRANKENSTEIN COMES TO CRAIGDARROCH CASTLE

A fearsome monster will be creeping through the creaky halls of Craigdarroch Castle this fall. Actor Jason Stevens will portray the infamous Victor Frankenstein– as well as a slew of other characters– in a one-man performance of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which was originally published in 1818. More than 100 years after its debut, the story still resonates with people.

Haunted House Fundraiser complete with mini donuts and tacos! This event is back for the third year and is claimed to be the scariest haunt on Vancouver Island. Bring a friend and enter at your own risk! This event will take place both outside and inside so it's advised to dress for the weather and be prepared for an evening to be remembered!

CHEMAINUS

1. TRICK OR TREAT CHEMAINUS

Trick or Treat Chemainus brings the community together to celebrate Halloween Saturday, Oct. 26. The free family-friendly annual event is coordinated by the Chemainus Business Improvement Association and takes place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Waterwheel Park. The town will be filled with excited children and families. The many activities at the event include: safe trick or treating at participating businesses; a fun scavenger hunt where children must find Halloween creatures in business windows; a spooky touch and feel guessing game put on by the C to Sea Lions Club; a costume contest at noon; and horse and trolley rides.

This year, come trick-or-treating with music! Experience the scariest, spine-chilling, eerie musical pieces inversions for nine musicians. Costumes welcomed, or wear orange, candy included. BOO!

2. MCNAB’S CORN MAZE & PUMPKIN PATCH

A family-friendly farm full of fun Fall festivities!  With a 7-acre Corn Maze, massive Pumpkin Patch (complete with Hayrides), and roadside Produce Stand, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Located at 4613 Yellow Point Road, just a quick drive outside of Nanaimo. Come out for a visit and experience some real “Family Fun in the Country”!

4. HALLOWEEN RAT HUNT AT THE MUSEUM

Rats have infested the Nanaimo Museum gallery! In the spirit of the season, they are allowed to stay until October 31st, but help is needed to find them all! While you’re visiting the museum during the month of October, young (or young-at-heart) visitors can hunt for [pictures of!] rats in our gallery. See if you can find them all, and win a small prize from the front desk!

1. FRIENDS OF FOSTER PARK PUMPKIN WALK

The Friends of Foster Park are hosting their annual Pumpkin Walk on Halloween at Foster Park in Parksville. The trails in the park will be glowing with over 400 lit pumpkins carved by local students. Hot dogs will be for sale and there will be free hot chocolate and goodie bags to enjoy. The event is free, starts at 7pm and is great for the whole family. Trails are stroller friendly. Donations and funds raised through hot dog sales will be used to cover event costs and support park improvements.

The Errington Hall’s annual all ages Halloween costume dance features East Van funk-rockers Raincity. There’s a 1970s and 1980s costume theme, so get your hippie or disco vibe going.
