Old City Nanaimo

Vancouver Island and Nanaimo Real Estate

Get to Know Old City

Nanaimo’s Old City Quarter contains buildings dating from the late 1800s to early 1900s and is considered part of the downtown economic core. A revitalization of heritage buildings as well as new developments showcases the area as a charming shopping, business and dining area destination. With the new 38,000 capacity convention center, the Diana Krall Plaza, the Port Theatre, the Nanaimo Museum and the water front promenade, this neighbourhood is considered the cultural hub of the city. Some of the oldest homes in Nanaimo are found in this neighbourhood with many on tree lined streets and with lovely harbour views, it attracts home owners looking to update older, character homes with their wonderful, established gardens. However, there are also plenty of new developments and condos in the area for potential home owners who want something fresh. Along with having most of the city’s cultural infrastructure, Nanaimo’s Seaplane hubs and Port Place Mall are also located here in the Old City.
