SUMMER IS NOT OVER YET! SOME GREAT IDEAS TO GET OUTSIDE AND KEEP FIT!

Hike with Friends and Loved Ones

We have so many wonderful hiking trails in and around Nanaimo.  It’s fun to go to old favourites and discover new ones.  You can make your hike a day trip with the family or have an evening hike straight from work with a picnic dinner while it’s cooler and still light outside. Hiking lowers your risk of heart disease and improves blood pressure.

Swim the Ocean and Lake

If you are an accomplished swimmer we have an abundance of open waters in and around Nanaimo to swim and cool off. Remember to always swim with a buddy and if you’re not a strong swimmer there are lakes and pools with lifeguards and roped off areas for swimming. Swimming is aerobic and anaerobic exercise that burns a lot of calories and is easy on the joints. Also a wonderful way to cool off in the hot weather.

Play Outside With Your Kids

If you have children you know how energetic they are! Harness their energy and use it to keep you fit. Playing with your children is a great way to bond, have an amazing workout and all while enjoying yourself!

Visit Your Local Playground

Your local playground can be a fantastic place to give you a great workout. Many of the traditional playgrounds have pull-up bars and swings that you can use in your workout. Go early before the playground gets busy or if you have children take them with you so everyone gets some great outdoor exercise.

Play Tennis

Tennis is such a fun outdoor activity with friends and family. You don’t even need to know the rules just bring a racket and balls and the courts are typically free.  Some places require a reservation while other courts are a first-come, first-served basis.
